Mosman is an affluent suburb located on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales, approximately 8kms northeast of Sydney's CBD. Known for its stunning harbour views and rich history, Mosman has become a desirable residential area.

The suburb is named after Archibald Mosman and his twin brother George, who arrived in the area in 1831. They established a whaling station on a bay that became known as Mosman's Bay. Archibald Mosman was heavily involved in whaling and by 1838 owned 108 acres along the waterfront. Before European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Borogegal tribe, and Bungaree, a well-known Aboriginal leader, became an important figure in the region's early history.

HMS Sirius, the flagship of the First Fleet, entered what is now known as Mosman Bay in 1789. The suburb has also been a significant site for maritime and defense installations since 1801, with the construction of fortifications such as Middle Head Fort and Georges Head Battery. These installations were vital for observing and securing Sydney Harbour, particularly during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Mosman forms a peninsula between Sydney Harbour and Middle Harbour and is renowned for its picturesque beaches, including Balmoral Beach and Chinamans Beach, as well as two clothing-optional beaches: Obelisk Beach and Cobblers Beach. Taronga Zoo and sections of Sydney Harbour National Park also add to the area's appeal, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

Notable landmarks include the Scotland Australia Cairn in Rawson Park, which commemorates the contributions of Scottish pioneers to Australia, and the Curlew Camp site on the eastern shore of Sirius Cove, where famous Australian artists like Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts once lived. The council has recently developed the Curlew Camp Artists Walk to celebrate this artistic heritage.

Mosman's shopping center is situated along Military Road, featuring a vibrant mix of boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. The shopping district extends from the intersection with Bradley's Head Road and Middle Head Road, continuing north past Spit Road at Spit Junction. Notably, this early 20th-century shopping strip is designated as a conservation area, preserving its historical character. A smaller shopping mall, Bridgepoint, is also located at Spit Junction.

The suburb offers a range of amenities, including parks, recreational facilities, and well-regarded schools. Ashton Park is a popular local destination, featuring Athol Hall, which hosts events and operates a café.

Mosman combines a rich historical context with a vibrant community and an enviable lifestyle, making it one of Sydney’s most sought-after suburbs.
